Greetings from Colorado! I have been thinking of ways to carry myself beyond my stress response as it is described by Herbert Benson, MD in his book 'The Relaxation Response'. This is what I decided to put in place for myself as my daily practice of compassionate self care and I would like to share with you today. This is part of the constellations of ideas and actions I call Gentle Medicine.

  1. Breathe. As biological beings we respond to stress with a physiological stress response and a physiological relaxation response that are a complex. cascade of biochemical reactions. The breath is the simplest and most powerful way to shift from Stress Response to Relaxation Response.
  2. Be in Nature whenever possible.
  3. Nurture solitude.
  4. Nourish wisdom.
  5. Appreciate beauty.
  6. Love yourself.
Over the coming days experiment with these and see how they affect change in your experience of life.

Together and over to coming months we will explore, discover and add other ways that may support us on this journey.
